‘You are standing in a world he helped shape’: tributes pour in for Goldschmied
Vivian Wang, the CEO of Kingpins, led an emotional tribute to the ‘Godfather of denim’, Adriano Goldschmied, attended by his wife Michela and three daughters on the first day of the Amsterdam show.
The seminar space was packed with attendees, gathered to pay their respects. The Kingpins team had been inundated with personal memories and tributes since his death on April 5, said Wang, all of which will be passed on to the family.
Fighting back tears, she noted how Goldschmied had always made time for people. “You are standing in a world he helped shape,” she said. “He showed up for all of us… and that is what community means.”
She added that he never missed a Kingpins show, and she thanked his family for sharing him with the denim community.
His daughter Sara said he had been determined to make the last Kingpins, before he passed away on April 5. “In a strange way, he timed it so we could be here, with his second family, during this time.
“He was available and generous, especially with young designers,” she said. “Today, our hearts are full of pride and gratitude.”
He had asked that she, alongside sisters Marta and Glenda, continue his business. “Dad, thank you for teaching us to dream and imagine our future,” she added.
