Gap founder has passed away

Doris Fisher, who founded The Gap with her husband Don Fisher in 1969, passed away this weekend, at the age of 94. “One of fashion’s great power couples, Doris and Don created a remarkable company that revolutionised fashion retail,” said Gap CEO Richard Dickson in a statement. “There is simply no equal to Doris Fisher. In Gap-speak, she was a true original. Doris was a full partner in Gap Inc.’s founding and a path-breaking entrepreneur at a time when that was highly unusual for women.”

Ms Fisher is credited with naming the company in reference to the generation gap between young people and their parents at the time. Her husband Don Fisher passed away in 2009, aged 81.
