Fast Retailing achieves responsible cotton sourcing target

Japanese retailer Fast Retailing, owner of Uniqlo, Comptoir des Cottonniers, Theory and Helmut Lang, has released new data on its Responsible Procurement goals related to raw materials. Since 2018, it has favoured cotton “grown in ways that reduce the use of water, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers during cultivation, take into consideration soil and ecosystem conservation, and respect the labour environment of farmers”. It announced that it had achieved this goal at the end of 2025 for 100% of the cotton it uses.

Starting this year, the group is now adding new criteria and will be increasing its uptake of cotton backed by independent certifications. The standards it intends to favour include recycled cotton certified GRS or RCS, organic cotton carrying GOTS or Organic Content Standard labels, fibres certified by Fairtrade International, Regenagri or Better Cotton Initiative (BCI).
