GOTS-certified facilities grow 15% in 2025

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) has released its annual report for 2025 which found that the number of certified facilities is now 17,800, up 15.3% in the year. The non-profit attributes this growth in part to new regulatory frameworks, increased scrutiny of supply chains and demand for sustainability claims backed by third parties. “In a year of significant regulatory change, our focus has been on strengthening systems that are practical, transparent and credible for global textile supply chains,” declared Claudia Kersten, Global Standard managing director.

Last year, the organisation began work on the creation of a new framework, the Global Responsible Textile Standard (GRTS). It said that it applies the same holistic system-based logic of GOTS to fabrics made from ‘responsible non-organic fibres’. Following the completion of two consultations, it expects to be able to release the GRTS later this year. “Together with GOTS, GRTS offers companies a clearer, more coherent way to manage responsibility across different fibres, align with due diligence expectations and strengthen governance and deliver impact across increasingly complex global textile supply chains,” commented Rahul Bhajekar, also managing director for GOTS.

#BehindtheSeams, the Stuttgart-based nonprofit’s annual consumer awareness campaign, achieved record results in 2025, it said. Last year’s month-long September campaign reached 144 million+ unique individuals, leading to 6,600 new Instagram followers and 850,000+ visitors to its website (www.behindtheseams.eco).

Global Standard has also expanded the “Space Cotton” pilot, a collaboration with AI firm Marple and the European Space Agency, which now covers Turkey as well as India.
