Ecoalf steps into denim

Spanish eco-responsible brand Ecoalf is introducing its first ‘green’ jeans this spring. Two years in development, the new range makes use of low impact materials and processes. The denim fabric is made from a blend of regenerative and recycled cotton (65/35), the indigo is made soluble using Smart-Indigo technology, an electrochemical process that cuts out salts. Pure Denim, in Italy, has such a device. Finishing is mostly waterless, using Jeanologia laser and ozone solutions.

Adopting strict eco-design principles, Ecoalf has decided to avoid integrating any synthetic fibres, including elastane. Instead of a zipper fly, it has chosen buttons that can be unscrewed.

Ecoalf also maps out its supply chain on its website, indicating with four locations for the jeans: Malpensa, Madrid, Casablanca and Fez. For each product it also provides data on resources and kilometres covered.

The women’s Nevada jeans pictured thus used 1020 litres of water, its carbon emissions are 11.64 kg CO2 eq and its manufacturing covered a distance of 12878 km.

The brand is launching one model for men, and two (a straight and wide leg) for women. Prices go from €129 to 139.
