Malone to pass on jeans-making skills

Denim designer Maurice Malone is opening the doors of his New York workshop to teach the skills behind jeans making during a nine-week course.

Denim Workshop will run each Wednesday from 3pm until 5pm, beginning on May 13, teaching skills including pattern-making and final construction.

Malone, founder of Williamsburg Garment Company, said: “This is not arts-and-crafts sewing. This is about learning how jeans are really made in a production environment and helping create the next generation of people capable of rebuilding American denim manufacturing.”

To complement the workshop, Malone has also launched Denim Talk, a bi-weekly online meet-up which gives participants from around the world the opportunity to ask questions about denim design, construction, manufacturing, sourcing and building a brand.
