AAFA calls for extra support for Better Work Pakistan

The American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) and the Fair Labor Association have praised the Pakistan government for its support of the pilot phase of Better Work Pakistan and suggested continued financial support from the Export Development Fund would send “a strong and positive signal to global brands”.

In a joint letter, association CEOs Steve Lamar and Jeff Vockrodt said: “At a time of heightened uncertainty around tariffs, market access and regulatory requirements, programmes such as Better Work help to reinforce confidence among international buyers. The programme provides factory-level support that helps suppliers strengthen compliance with labour standards while improving operational performance.”

It said continued financial support would underscore Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining high standards, strengthen labour market governance, and "position itself as a preferred sourcing destination".

“Expanded support would also enable broader participation of suppliers - including small and medium-sized enterprises - thereby strengthening the overall resilience and competitiveness of Pakistan’s export sector," they added.

AAFA represents brands including Calvin Klein, Gap, Hugo Boss, Kontoor, Levi's and Madewell.
