NordShield enters denim market with bio anti-odour finish
Finnish company NordShield has tapped pine tree resin for a non-biocidal, biodegradable and plant-based anti-odour technology that it is launching in the denim sector in collaboration with Artistic Milliners.
Following tests at the Pakistan-based mill and garment manufacturer, NordShield confirmed the finish does not affect the hand feel or colour, and can be added at the garment or textile stage.
‘Crisp’ is a perfect fit for denim, as jeans are generally not washed as much as other clothing, NordShield CEO Paul Wasastjerna told Inside Denim. “Many people wash jeans at 30 degrees Celsius, but bacteria only dies at 60 degrees,” he said. “Our product means consumers can reduce the amount of washing as there will be no bacteria or odour in the jeans.”
This could also help brands show they are extending the life of their products – which could become valuable when new European legislation comes into effect, he added. “Also, traditional treatments are based on silver or other biocides, so when you wash them, they could get into the waterways. This is 100% biodegradable so there is no harm to the environment.”
